Given out during the Week 4 Q&A Session:

GROWTH POINTS ONLY:

3 Deryn Oliver https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwFFqnasOT3/ Collab: showcases both of their VO business and talent, editing is good - could be even more tightly edited, well scripted and acted.  AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwASPuqgD9f/ Second Character: lots of different characters that feature your VO work, sound levels were all over the gaff for some of them so keep an ear out for that. More of you projecting your voice so it picks up in mic when you are further away and when in doubt leave out the background music. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwIkht2sisA/ Second Character: ummm I thought for a second that this was a real interview. Excellently presented. Good eye lines, framing, editing. Well done.

3 Leonie https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwCih6jIlkf/ Reel from a Comment: educational, excellent speech tempo, plus CTA of read the caption. Excellent work. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwFlKjrIY8P/ Collab: Perfection. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwIe7_jIaEL/ Second Character: Fantastic. That bead of sweat? The twitching fingers at the keyboard? The toothpick? The Green Screen background? The sepia filter on top of it all? This was masterfully constructed. That said… this is Reels. Attention spans are non-existent. Next time cut it down to half the time and get straight to the point.

3 Lisa Francescon https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwAYUvLgMVX/ Reel from a Comment: cute, on brand, straight to the point about her business. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwCrZTZAps4/ Remix: on brand for her pet photography business and so encouraging to pet owners who have disabled pets who may be hesitant to book her. Seeing how you will work with any animal warms our hearts. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwIL9adg4jH/ Second Character: Using her dog as a second character is genius. Lighting, framing, the wait for the lion text on top made me watch the whole thing. The lion sleeps tonight background music was smartly played. Editing could be even tighter. And when the dog spoke - no pauses. Just say it without a break. That will keep the momentum going even more.

3 Sophie Dean https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwHjEI7I_QO/ Reel from a Comment: BTS about her business - her booth, excellent editing, good framing. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwAHNwTNYg3/ Remix: lip syncing and impersonating the original and making it about her business with the text on top. Shut up and take my money. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv7Fb-DMxln/ Second Character: the framing in this is excellent. Job interviewer (more dominant) camera pointing up at her. Inner Critic (more submissive) camera pointing down at her. The use of a different accent for the second character plus the disheveled look was a great bonus. Editing out those breaths and dead air needed to be done though. From now and until forever more, edit out all dead air.

2 Emma Onash https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwItkWSoD1S/ Second Character: Answering a Q that most clients have but are too scared to ask, well scripted, well acted, good framing, editing could be even tighter, and next time speak a little bit quicker. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwDqVhfoyPm/ Reel from a Comment: Lots of people are complaining about “in perpetuity” but no one knows what it means and no one likes to see someone complain. What Emma did was break it down in a simple way and with a. Smile on her face. Editing, scripting, framing is great. Lighting could be better. Next time go to a window or have light come from the front of your face and not above your head.

2 Daniela Saioni https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv_J4NIpcbB/ Remix: Mixing a fun sax solo with her working and tying it into her business with the text on top. This. Is. So. Easy. To. Do. And. Hits. It. Hard. Well done. Keep on grooving with those tunes. Loved watching you work. AND  https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwIhRIlMjct/ Collab: Excellent eye lines, brilliantly scripted (obvs), totally about both of your businesses, wonderful framing, lighting, and editing. More of this please.

2 Doranne Keating https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwHFU19smvh/ Reel from a Comment: great BTS about a pat Reel about a directed session. We could see more of you and how much you love to do what you do. Great lesson for all of us to use Reel from a Comment like this. Good example. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwEjjAhsssD/ Second Character: ping pong with yourself like… how did you film this? Hahaha. Next time write text on top who each character is. Wasn’t sure who was you and who was Imposter Syndrome. Could have been edited a bit tighter but you’re making huge strides from where you were a year ago. Keep going!

2 Jaci Kjernander https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwF1OeOK6aQ/ Collab: DJing off of a past Reel we now get the BTS and we are all here for it. Didn’t follow the directions in the video but sometimes when a great BTS moment happens it needs to be shared as a Collab Reel and bam it gets a Growth Point. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwA2oW8uxls/ Reel from a Comment: BTS of her role in Reel Actresses of Hollywood East. Good framing, lighting, speech tempo, would have been nice to have the whole comment up for longer but good plug for the IG account. Well done.

2 Kim Niemi  https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwF1OeOK6aQ/ Collab: DJing off of a past Reel we now get the BTS and we are all here for it. Didn’t follow the directions in the video but sometimes when a great BTS moment happens it needs to be shared as a Collab Reel and bam it gets a Growth Point. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwB8U1-MbQX/ Reel from a Comment which is also Second Character: Shut the front door. The editing on this is excellent. The last clip of both of you together saying the same thing in unison. Amazing. Here’s the Kim that we all know and love. More of this please.

2 Liz de Nesnara https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwApJyLA6J-/ Remix: using another VOs Reel about going outside and dancing before recording this is so great to see. Sometimes the easiest things can make great Reels. Did I thoroughly enjoy how they both stepped into frame from the centre which made it aesthetically pleasing and caught my eye in the very first second? Yes. Well done. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwC4aw1olWT/ Second Character: this classic audio was used very well. The pan to the mic was a hilarious surprise. It was about her VO business and made us all laugh.

2 Marie Andrascik https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwFk0_jJgc0/ Collab: About their businesses, fun, entertaining, well edited. More of this please. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwKzKRFI-iw/ Remix: text on top about her business, quick and easy to film, however from now on I want to see your face. With that hat on and the coffee mug in front of your face and the Remix framing being so small I didn’t know who this was. More face please!

2 Trecia Lovering https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv86w2QNMoZ/ Reel from a Comment: snarky but friendly, business related, and showcased her voice since she’s a VO. Eye line should have been direct to camera. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwCMEnORcxQ/ Remix: VO challenge - we got to see her at work. Nice. Next time get better lighting on your face by either going to the window or using a light that isn’t above you but rather in front of you so we can see more of your face

2 Theresa Ho https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwEiKtvsd5C/ Remix: VO Challenge. Well done, good ad libs in the beginning to keep us interested, good read, and the Reel and text on top is  about her business. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwMOawIsW5s/ Second Character: it’s great to see you natural and relaxed in front of the camera. Smart move to speed up the VO text for those times that you actually are recording something and can’t share what you are talking about. Clever. Let’s talk about framing. If you are standing and are showing upper body and a little bit of lower body then your second character was too close to the camera. Take. Step back and let Beatrice do her thing so it’s not so much of a contrast between you being further away and Beatrice being close up.

1 Alicia Hiller https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwGTiGCJvJE/ Reel from a Comment: about her VO business, second character of her mic, Comment could have been a bit smaller in frame, and it took time to get to the point. Next time answer the question / get straight to the point in the beginning to keep us watching and then have fun at the end.

1 Amelia Kram McHenry https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwGf3fwKUBJ/ Second Character: Great breakdown of who she is, what her offerings are, and how she helps her clients.

1 Amy Lee Pearsall https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwGMYtFt-2v/ Reel from a Comment: I don’t mind that the comment is not at the top because she’s using her framing to show her hand and give a tip on how to use your hands properly in downward dog. Great speech tempo, wonderful energy, wonderful community building Reel.

1 Ana-Maria Rödiger https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv7tKuOs_em/ Remix: Yes it’s a pet Reel BUT in the text on top she made it about her business with her cat approving her self tapes as an actor. Smartly done.

1 BA Goddard https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwBJiFYIbBD/ Remix: sometimes copying what the other person is doing to show that what they did is aligned to what you do is the easiest and most effective kinds of Remixes. Do I wish she also put the different styles in text on her side like the person she remixed? Yes. Do I wish the text above them was more condensed so I could focus more on what the Reel is about? Yes. But this is a great Remix that is business oriented that deserves a Growth Point. Woohoo!

1 Brandon Miller https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwLqXeTq1mt/ Reel from a Comment: Excellent start with the Comment plus tons of other comments on screen. Then breaking down the 2 truths and 1 lie. Smartly done. Great getting to know you better!

1 Brook Packard https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwFhE8YhP92/ Second Character: Resistant Roberta… um is that you? Really well done. New voice, new look, new mannerisms. Scripting could be a bit tighter for example a handkerchief or Kleenex - go straight to it, cut out handkerchief and go straight to Kleenex. The “you annoy the heck outta me but…” was great to see. I want to see more Resistant Roberta when it comes to bedtime routines.

1 Donald Kramer https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwFlKjrIY8P/ Collab: Perfection.

1 Devon McPherson https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwFFqnasOT3/ Collab: showcases both of their VO business and talent, editing is good - could be even more tightly edited, well scripted and acted.

1 Drea Burck https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv5zPwFAZaV/ Second Character: all the different things actors say to their friends. Hilarious. Smart. Well written and delivered. Barely any unnecessary pauses. Edited really well. More of this please.

1 Goldie Perry https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwJ49v5r969/ Second Character: giving herself a pep talk, text on top about her business, a vulnerable peek behind the curtain, beautiful. Haven’t seen this stillness in you before.

1 Judy Babinski https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwB8U1-MbQX/ Second Character: Google God with a scarf on her head and beaded necklace…. I. LOVE. HER! Who is she? I want more! Scripting of this Reel could be tighter. Start straight off with ugh I’M having trouble editing this. What will the Google God say? Then cut to Google God. Super quick. Back and forth. No need to set it up with you editing in the beginning, then discovering the problem, then feeling challenged. Start at the peak of the frustration and go from there. But seriously, put that scarf back on your head and throw on those beads. I want to see more of whoever this second character is. I’m obsessed.

1 LaNecia Edmonds https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwBn7QzsGM0/ Remix: hilarious, short intro, yet on top made it about her business, did I kinda want to see you do it too? Yes. So next time lean into the silliness and make us laugh even harder.

1 Lillian Warkentin  https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwFk0_jJgc0/ Collab: About their businesses, fun, entertaining, well edited. More of this please.

1 LL Kirchner https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwIhRIlMjct/ Collab: Excellent eye lines, brilliantly scripted (obvs), totally about both of your businesses, wonderful framing, lighting, and editing. More of this please.

1 Melinda Yerzy https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv-oXYRgGBN/ Remix: This Reel has nothing to do with her business yet when she put the text on top it then did. Smart move Melinda. Having fun in Reels can also be related to your business just with text on top. And the NaBro elements reference is hilarious. If I were to do that I’d need hours on Google and a bunsen burner to get it right. Well done.

1 Michelle Betton https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwIarEzs5fH/ Remix: about her VO business going to AI, great topic, great energy, I only wish that the intro wasn’t so long. Tip on how to keep us watching.. write on top Wait for it… or Stitch incoming…

1 Miriam Babooram https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwD0IkhoToy/ Remix: Shut up. Get out of here. I screamed laughing at the outfit reveal. The original Instagrammer makes it about how to act, you as an actor make it about how to act, and your timing with his movements is totally in sync. And your text on top made it blatantly clear what your business is. Excellent work. More of this please.

1 Philip Hägeli https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwAi0wrqqwj/ Second Character: excellent editing. Great content. Wonderful pop up at beginning and pop down at end. Next time when doing second character like this change your eye line from straight to camera to slightly off camera so we as the viewer feel like we are a fly on the wall.

1 Regina Hopper: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwEJLnPOBqD/ Reel from a Comment: educational, about her business, great list of resources at the end. Next time edit out the dead air so it’s punchier.

1 Smurf Brown https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv_RYdcAPlC/ Remix: each voice was different and the script was hilarious. There’s always the “VoiceOver this” Remix Reels but I’ve never seen anything like this. More of this please.

1 Stephanie Cannon https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv__2NEowG-/ Remix: Celebrating getting the gig is always a great idea for a Reel. Well done and congrats!

1 Verena Müller https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwK9ABbswiE/ Collab: fun Reel about her BFF who is also an actor. Easy to create. Tricky to edit but you edited it great.

Given out during the Week 3 Q&A Session:

GROWTH POINTS ONLY:

GROWTH POINTS FOR GROUP 1:

2 Daniela Saioni https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvv71Cvg78Z/ for finding a Taylor Swift audio about writing and lip syncing to it for her writing business AND https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv1Zv-cAj66/ for speaking directly to her followers who are writers about one specific topic, being concise, and guiding her viewers through the process. Yes, there’s shaky cam, you can hear the wind, and there’s no real hook in the beginning but I made the exception because of her mix of authenticity and understanding the format of the Original Spoken Word Reel Style.

1 Donald Kramer https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvtM34wt8V4/ No there is no hook in this Original Spoken Word Reel Style. But yes, it’s a fun scenario that we can relate to that ties into his VO business without being too performative of “Look at me and listen to my voice.”

3 Emma Onash https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv0YPgfoyN_/ using the lip sync audio to fit the context of a specific aha moment in her VO business AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv0YPgfoyN_/ for using the lip sync audio to turn a usually awkward moment talking about money in her business to something hilarious AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2pCOLoxBZ/ for NAILING the Original Spoken Word Reels Style of walking into frame from the left and exiting to the right, using an excellent hook, explaining a complex topic - her revision policy - to her dream clients, and editing it down to perfection with no dead air. Emma is one to watch.

1 Jaci Kjernander https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvzTruTrwA2/ No this Original Spoken Word Reel has literally none of the things I teach in my videos. No hook. Bad shaky cam. Almost inaudible audio. Why did this get a Growth Point then? She filmed in public, used the SAG AFTRA strike situation of being around another actor that she worked with to create a Reel, and she created a scenario that is hilarious. Do I want to see more Original Spoken Word Reels from Jaci (and everyone) that follows the formula in my videos? Yes. Does this one stand out because the context of being an actor is spot on? Yes.

1 Janice Kulka https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvxQi0gMxaG/ for using this lip sync to play two characters in two different outfits talking about how different she can look when doing self tape auditions for her acting business

2 Joanne Jang https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv0zIl7ADYV/ AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv3VmxmgEU0/ for getting straight to the point, using numbers to count us through things so it’s easy to follow along and keep watching, a more steady cam, a good audio mix, and for tapping into her leadership energy to share that on Instagram. with her Original Spoken Word Reels. More of this please Joanne!

1 Leonie https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5bkLWLY_P/ for giving us a studio tour of her VO booth in the Original Spoken Word Reels Style with excellent editing, entrance and exit, and a natural personality. Leonie is one to watch.

1 Lisa Francescon https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2HJq2gXzv/ for giving us a BTS trick onhow to keep pets sitting still for their photo shoots with her. Could the hook and her speech tempo be faster so I would stop my scroll earlier? Yes. Still, this is a huge leap in the right direction and I can’t wait to see more.

1 Pippa Vos https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv6LJQdMenT/ for nailing the Original Spoken Word Reel Style hook, making the Reel about her business while talking about what she doesn ‘t when she’s NOT working (smart move), and showcasing her voice without it being performative as in “look at me and listen to my voice while I read a bed time story”.

1 Smurf Brown https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvvv2o7gV-8/ for using this lip sync to squash the beef with his Imposter Syndrome in his VO business

1 Tina Capricorn https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv47qGTgVzX/ for using this lip sync audio to hilariously NAIL the different ways we read and say characters names in books

GROWTH POINTS FOR GROUP 2:

1 Phillip Hägeli https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvssJAbKER-/ for using this lip sync audio to talk about his business, choosing the right eyeline (off camera) to talk to the other person in the audio, and using a smartly subtle background effect to set the scene for his business. Well done.

1 Trecia Lovering https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvvj3bdrWGx/ No this Original Spoken Word Reel doesn’t follow any of the tips and tricks in my videos. So why did this get a Growth Point then? Because of the smart and simple editing. WHen you don’t follow the rules but create an exceptionally good exception to the rule that is too good to ignore, it pays off. Do I want to see more Reels from Trecia (and everyone) that follows the rules? Yes. But sometimes a Reel like this slips through that deserves a round of applause.

GROWTH POINTS FOR GROUP 3:

1 Beth Stewart https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5etIZptYv/ I’m not saying use JT original audio to lip sync to and you’ll automatically get a Growth Point. But what I AM saying is that this made all of Team Tilley’s ears perk up and have a “wait a minute… HAHAHAH!” moment. And… there’s a lot of things going for this Reel. entering from the left, exiting from the right, fitting the context of the audio, and making it about her business with the text on top.

1 Dalia Ramahi https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvxHdPtgQJ0/ Usually saying you’re sick isn’t something you want to tell the world. but when done in a creative and fun way to a lip sync audio that just fits perfectly, the viewer realises that you probably aren’t sick and that you’re just having some fun. This Reel fits the context and concept excellently.

1 Deborah Balm https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv4BdvqgGW7/ is there too much going on in this lip sync Reel? Yes. Did it stop my scroll to try and figure it out and then giggle when I got it? Yes.

1 Hilary Buuck https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvsfA99pIwa/ understood the assignment when it comes to lip sync Reels , editing, framing, lighting, production, less is more, and allowing herself to be observed on camera. Hilary, now that you’ve shown me this I want nothing less. I’m loving what I’m seeing. More please.

1 Jodi Murphy https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv3DVQMp2na/ This Reel follows none of my tips and tricks on how to do an Original Spoken Word Reel. So why did this get a Growth Point then? Because I finally am seeing the person and not the performance (although this is performative but it’s fun and funny), I’m seeing the BTS, I’m seeing the authenticity, I’m seeing the warm up before the job, and he used smart editing by speeding up the Reel to make it funny. Whatever you tapped into for this Reel, tap into it every time you create future Reels.

1 LaNecia Edmond https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvqqlS8rAI_/ how can you top the “it’s hot in the VO booth” scenario that everyone does? LaNecia found a way and made it about her business AND her dream clients in the text on top. This was simple to create and hits it right on the head. LaNecia is one to watch.

1 Lillian Warkintin https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2OEkTLzX9/ three different outfits for three different times of the day to showcase how her voice changes during the day with an example of her talking in each one plus great editing, framing, and lighting. Text on top about her business. Not the best hook but that’s ok because it’s blatantly clear what’s going on and it keeps us watching til the end. More. of. This. Please. Lillian.

2 Natasha Marchewka https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv6XhoWgFpy/ she nailed the lip sync. She nailed the community building. She nailed filming everyone in their best light and dance moves. She. Nailed. This. Lip. Sync. On. So. Many. Levels. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvv1ZqWAWdP/ for one of my favorite BTS Reels of a VO artist of all time. No this follows none of my tips and tricks on how to do Original Spoken Word Reel Style but shut the front door this is freaking brilliant. We are finally seeing who Natasha is. And we like what we see.

2 Sophie Dean https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2zRzig6dI/ business related, excellent framing, lighting, and editing, comfortable in front of the camera, allows herself to be observed and have fun, and then she shows the BTS fun stuff at the end for this lip sync. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvzhBJFsOcZ/ for following all the tips and tricks for the Original Spoken Word Reels Style. Counting fingers, explaining things in a fun and simple way, breaking things down, talking about money without it being awkward which is hard to do. Framing and lighting are good. Now Tough Tilley is coming out because her editing is already really good… Sophie. From now on, whenever you do Original Spoken Word Reels… if I see even one millisecond of dead air… I’ll hunt you down. I want tighter than tight edits. I know you can do it. So do it. Y’all better watch out because Sophie is one to watch.

1 Suzanne Wynn https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5n4W7JjT9/ for a good Original Spoken Word Reel that breaks down her booth acoustics. Finally I’m seeing more of the relaxed you in front of the camera that allows herself to be observed. Good counting on your fingers and entrance and exit. More of this please. Keep it up!

1 Tesz Millan https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5z7LGs4ax/ as a long form video YouTuber doing short form punchy Instagram Reels… it can be like pulling the emergency brake in your car when speeding down the highway. No this Original Spoken Word Reel doesn’t follow the tips and tricks in my videos however… many YouTubers use short clips form their long form YouTube videos as Reels on Instagram (and YouTube shorts) as a trailer / snippet / teaser for their latest YouTube video. The editing in this is fantastic and although I’m not a fan of a log in a Reel this just makes sense for the business that she is in. This way of doing Reels is done often by the big guns like Gary V and Alex Hormozi and I like seeing her do it too… that said, I’d also like to see some Reels be more fitting the the Instagram Reel format. But how? Script or outline your YouTube video so there’s a short and punchy bit with a hook in the beginning, the content in the middle, and a CTA at the end. So it fits the context of the long form YouTube video but can be pulled out and used alone as a Reel (short from) without it feeling like a snippet. An example of this is all of the videos inside the Reels Challenge. They start off with an intro and finish with an outro but the stuff in between are all Reels pieces together in an order that is easy to follow and where the viewer learns in short clips one after the other to create a longer form video. Am I being Tough Tilley on Tesz right now? Maybe but I don’t think so. I know she can handle it. So marinate on that idea and then when the aha moment comes then film it. I can’t wait to see what you create.
