WEEK 3 VIDEO

WEEK 3 HOMEWORK

✅ Watch as many Week 3 videos as you like
✅ Create Reels this week that are focused on the topic of Week 3: Advanced Reels Skills. Those 4 Reels Styles are Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, and Second Character. You’ll notice that this week’s videos are mostly in the Original Spoken Word Reel Style (which you learned about in Week 2.) If you haven’t watched that video already or need a refresher then feel free to watch it again. THEN dive in to the Week 3 videos.
✅ Each Reel you create for this 30 Day Challenge MUST be aligned to your creative freelance business in order to be considered for Growth Points
💥 This week’s curveball: Take your pick from the following 4 Reels Styles: Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, Second Character. Choose 1 style or all 4 (it doesn’t matter). I’m looking for your proactive, autonomous, independent, know-thyself, I’m-making-it-work-for-me-and-my-business spirit. What Reels Style(s) - Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, Second Character - vibes with you and your business best? Then create those style(s) with a strong focus on lighting, framing, filming, sound, and editing. Show me your masterpiece.

  • I’m NOT looking for the typical spammy Reels like “If you ever need a (your job title) then book me now!”.

  • I’m looking for Reels that show the different aspects of your creative business.

  • Refer to the long list of Reels ideas for inspiration.

  • The Reels styles that will be considered for Growth points will be Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, and Second Character AND that knock my socks off.

  • The Reels styles that will not be considered for Growth points are all the other Reels Styles you’ve learned in the past weeks. Still feel free to create those Reel Styles as filler between your Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, and Second Character Reels this week.

  • The more Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, and Second Character Reels you create the week the more practice you’ll get in for those styles and the more chances you’ll have at being considered for a Growth point.

  • Hint: Step up. That means, go the extra mile, push yourself, go big, be bold, and surprise even yourself at what you create. If you think, “that’ll do” or “that’s good enough” or “that was easy” that means you haven’t pushed yourself hard enough. I’d rather you create 1 Reel in the Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, or Second Character style that’s a masterpiece and have a shot at getting a Growth Point than creating multiple mediocre half-assed Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, Second Character Reels that don’t make the cut for a Growth Point. After seeing your Reels over the past weeks, I know you better than you think. I see the greatness that you are capable of. Now the real question is… do you see it? Step up into that greatness and show the world what you got.

  • Deadline: create 1 Reel / day about your business using the Reel from a Comment, Remix, Collab, Second Character Reels Styles. Reels that follow the curveball directions that are posted between Day 15 of this Challenge (this Monday) until Day 21 of this Challenge (this Sunday at 11:59pm your time) will be considered for Growth points.

  • Critique of the Week 3 curveballs and Growth point scoring will be announced during the Week 4 Q&A Session.

Given out during the Week 3 Q&A Session:

GROWTH POINTS ONLY:

GROWTH POINTS FOR GROUP 1:

2 Daniela Saioni https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvv71Cvg78Z/ for finding a Taylor Swift audio about writing and lip syncing to it for her writing business AND https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv1Zv-cAj66/ for speaking directly to her followers who are writers about one specific topic, being concise, and guiding her viewers through the process. Yes, there’s shaky cam, you can hear the wind, and there’s no real hook in the beginning but I made the exception because of her mix of authenticity and understanding the format of the Original Spoken Word Reel Style.

1 Donald Kramer https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvtM34wt8V4/ No there is no hook in this Original Spoken Word Reel Style. But yes, it’s a fun scenario that we can relate to that ties into his VO business without being too performative of “Look at me and listen to my voice.”

3 Emma Onash https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv0YPgfoyN_/ using the lip sync audio to fit the context of a specific aha moment in her VO business AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv0YPgfoyN_/ for using the lip sync audio to turn a usually awkward moment talking about money in her business to something hilarious AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2pCOLoxBZ/ for NAILING the Original Spoken Word Reels Style of walking into frame from the left and exiting to the right, using an excellent hook, explaining a complex topic - her revision policy - to her dream clients, and editing it down to perfection with no dead air. Emma is one to watch.

1 Jaci Kjernander https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvzTruTrwA2/ No this Original Spoken Word Reel has literally none of the things I teach in my videos. No hook. Bad shaky cam. Almost inaudible audio. Why did this get a Growth Point then? She filmed in public, used the SAG AFTRA strike situation of being around another actor that she worked with to create a Reel, and she created a scenario that is hilarious. Do I want to see more Original Spoken Word Reels from Jaci (and everyone) that follows the formula in my videos? Yes. Does this one stand out because the context of being an actor is spot on? Yes.

1 Janice Kulka https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvxQi0gMxaG/ for using this lip sync to play two characters in two different outfits talking about how different she can look when doing self tape auditions for her acting business

2 Joanne Jang https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv0zIl7ADYV/ AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv3VmxmgEU0/ for getting straight to the point, using numbers to count us through things so it’s easy to follow along and keep watching, a more steady cam, a good audio mix, and for tapping into her leadership energy to share that on Instagram. with her Original Spoken Word Reels. More of this please Joanne!

1 Leonie https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5bkLWLY_P/ for giving us a studio tour of her VO booth in the Original Spoken Word Reels Style with excellent editing, entrance and exit, and a natural personality. Leonie is one to watch.

1 Lisa Francescon https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2HJq2gXzv/ for giving us a BTS trick onhow to keep pets sitting still for their photo shoots with her. Could the hook and her speech tempo be faster so I would stop my scroll earlier? Yes. Still, this is a huge leap in the right direction and I can’t wait to see more.

1 Pippa Vos https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv6LJQdMenT/ for nailing the Original Spoken Word Reel Style hook, making the Reel about her business while talking about what she doesn ‘t when she’s NOT working (smart move), and showcasing her voice without it being performative as in “look at me and listen to my voice while I read a bed time story”.

1 Smurf Brown https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvvv2o7gV-8/ for using this lip sync to squash the beef with his Imposter Syndrome in his VO business

1 Tina Capricorn https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv47qGTgVzX/ for using this lip sync audio to hilariously NAIL the different ways we read and say characters names in books

GROWTH POINTS FOR GROUP 2:

1 Phillip Hägeli https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvssJAbKER-/ for using this lip sync audio to talk about his business, choosing the right eyeline (off camera) to talk to the other person in the audio, and using a smartly subtle background effect to set the scene for his business. Well done.

1 Trecia Lovering https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvvj3bdrWGx/ No this Original Spoken Word Reel doesn’t follow any of the tips and tricks in my videos. So why did this get a Growth Point then? Because of the smart and simple editing. WHen you don’t follow the rules but create an exceptionally good exception to the rule that is too good to ignore, it pays off. Do I want to see more Reels from Trecia (and everyone) that follows the rules? Yes. But sometimes a Reel like this slips through that deserves a round of applause.

GROWTH POINTS FOR GROUP 3:

1 Beth Stewart https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5etIZptYv/ I’m not saying use JT original audio to lip sync to and you’ll automatically get a Growth Point. But what I AM saying is that this made all of Team Tilley’s ears perk up and have a “wait a minute… HAHAHAH!” moment. And… there’s a lot of things going for this Reel. entering from the left, exiting from the right, fitting the context of the audio, and making it about her business with the text on top.

1 Dalia Ramahi https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvxHdPtgQJ0/ Usually saying you’re sick isn’t something you want to tell the world. but when done in a creative and fun way to a lip sync audio that just fits perfectly, the viewer realises that you probably aren’t sick and that you’re just having some fun. This Reel fits the context and concept excellently.

1 Deborah Balm https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv4BdvqgGW7/ is there too much going on in this lip sync Reel? Yes. Did it stop my scroll to try and figure it out and then giggle when I got it? Yes.

1 Hilary Buuck https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvsfA99pIwa/ understood the assignment when it comes to lip sync Reels , editing, framing, lighting, production, less is more, and allowing herself to be observed on camera. Hilary, now that you’ve shown me this I want nothing less. I’m loving what I’m seeing. More please.

1 Jodi Murphy https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv3DVQMp2na/ This Reel follows none of my tips and tricks on how to do an Original Spoken Word Reel. So why did this get a Growth Point then? Because I finally am seeing the person and not the performance (although this is performative but it’s fun and funny), I’m seeing the BTS, I’m seeing the authenticity, I’m seeing the warm up before the job, and he used smart editing by speeding up the Reel to make it funny. Whatever you tapped into for this Reel, tap into it every time you create future Reels.

1 LaNecia Edmond https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvqqlS8rAI_/ how can you top the “it’s hot in the VO booth” scenario that everyone does? LaNecia found a way and made it about her business AND her dream clients in the text on top. This was simple to create and hits it right on the head. LaNecia is one to watch.

1 Lillian Warkintin https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2OEkTLzX9/ three different outfits for three different times of the day to showcase how her voice changes during the day with an example of her talking in each one plus great editing, framing, and lighting. Text on top about her business. Not the best hook but that’s ok because it’s blatantly clear what’s going on and it keeps us watching til the end. More. of. This. Please. Lillian.

2 Natasha Marchewka https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv6XhoWgFpy/ she nailed the lip sync. She nailed the community building. She nailed filming everyone in their best light and dance moves. She. Nailed. This. Lip. Sync. On. So. Many. Levels. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvv1ZqWAWdP/ for one of my favorite BTS Reels of a VO artist of all time. No this follows none of my tips and tricks on how to do Original Spoken Word Reel Style but shut the front door this is freaking brilliant. We are finally seeing who Natasha is. And we like what we see.

2 Sophie Dean https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2zRzig6dI/ business related, excellent framing, lighting, and editing, comfortable in front of the camera, allows herself to be observed and have fun, and then she shows the BTS fun stuff at the end for this lip sync. AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvzhBJFsOcZ/ for following all the tips and tricks for the Original Spoken Word Reels Style. Counting fingers, explaining things in a fun and simple way, breaking things down, talking about money without it being awkward which is hard to do. Framing and lighting are good. Now Tough Tilley is coming out because her editing is already really good… Sophie. From now on, whenever you do Original Spoken Word Reels… if I see even one millisecond of dead air… I’ll hunt you down. I want tighter than tight edits. I know you can do it. So do it. Y’all better watch out because Sophie is one to watch.

1 Suzanne Wynn https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5n4W7JjT9/ for a good Original Spoken Word Reel that breaks down her booth acoustics. Finally I’m seeing more of the relaxed you in front of the camera that allows herself to be observed. Good counting on your fingers and entrance and exit. More of this please. Keep it up!

1 Tesz Millan https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5z7LGs4ax/ as a long form video YouTuber doing short form punchy Instagram Reels… it can be like pulling the emergency brake in your car when speeding down the highway. No this Original Spoken Word Reel doesn’t follow the tips and tricks in my videos however… many YouTubers use short clips form their long form YouTube videos as Reels on Instagram (and YouTube shorts) as a trailer / snippet / teaser for their latest YouTube video. The editing in this is fantastic and although I’m not a fan of a log in a Reel this just makes sense for the business that she is in. This way of doing Reels is done often by the big guns like Gary V and Alex Hormozi and I like seeing her do it too… that said, I’d also like to see some Reels be more fitting the the Instagram Reel format. But how? Script or outline your YouTube video so there’s a short and punchy bit with a hook in the beginning, the content in the middle, and a CTA at the end. So it fits the context of the long form YouTube video but can be pulled out and used alone as a Reel (short from) without it feeling like a snippet. An example of this is all of the videos inside the Reels Challenge. They start off with an intro and finish with an outro but the stuff in between are all Reels pieces together in an order that is easy to follow and where the viewer learns in short clips one after the other to create a longer form video. Am I being Tough Tilley on Tesz right now? Maybe but I don’t think so. I know she can handle it. So marinate on that idea and then when the aha moment comes then film it. I can’t wait to see what you create.

GROWTH POINTS FOR GROUP 4:

1 Alicia Hiller https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2e8KvAtKP/ good Original Spoken Word Reel style and using lots of the tips and tricks in my videos. Could this have been edited tighter to shave off a good 5-7 seconds and shortened her words to be even more punchy and direct to the point? Yes. But this is a great springboard into something that I want to see more of.

1 Amelia Kram McHenry https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvsp4e0unDo/ for using different effects to bring home her point of just being yourself which she coaches on

1 Amy Lee Pearsall https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv2JciVtasB/ for this hilarious lip sync where she brings out her lovingly snarky side to yoga

2 Brook Packard https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvpMI10Of_G/ for using this excellent audio to lip sync the issues she helps her students with in her bed time routine business AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv1_fYctbbL/ for nailing this Original Spoken Word Reel Style on all levels - movement to and from camera, framing, finger counting, short and punchy words, well scripted, well edited. Brook is one to watch.

2 Brookie Curnow https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvuOO50LHrj/ for showing us all the different steps it takes to be a creative on Instagram. The last step had me cackling AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvruMFoNV84/ although this doesn’t fit all the tips and tricks in the Original Spoken Word Reels Style video tutorials this is expertly created, directed, scripted, acted, edited, lit, and presented that speaks directly to her dream clients. Brookie is one to watch.

2 Deryn Oliver https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvwzyZeADBq/ used this audio to lip sync to a typical issue one faces as a VO. Very smartly played! AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv4trTAgQdr/ for creating a faux interview Reel which is very popular right now. Well scripted, acted, and great tempo. Very natural. Deryn is one to watch.

1 Drea Burck https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5zPwFAZaV/ for speaking directly to camera and getting straight to the poiint in this Original Spoken Word Reel about her business.

1 Judy Babinski https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5s5CBrh6p/ for charming the hearts of all of her followers with this great ORiginal SPoken Word Reel. Good tempo, good presentation, good editing. More of this please!

1 Goldie Perry https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv1COmIxC7s/ for explaining why she doesn’t work on the weekends to her dream clients

1 Kim Niemi https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvtLezFt-u-/ for using her actual work to make a ripple in the current SAG AFTRA Strikes. Really well played!

2 Lynne Ennis https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv6BJ9wpij-/ um this. is. brilliant. More of this kind of punchy, on the ball, direct to the point Reels in all styles please! AND https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv6PsLrA3px/ for making this Original SPoken WOrd Reel very casual, natural, and non-spammy. More of this please as well!

1 Melinda Yerzy https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cvp5LXAgZEt/ for bringing her crazy lady creativity to this lip sync Reel without over acting and landing the punchline with her headphones plopping onto her head.

1 Miriam Babooram https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cv5YAFfoj7L/ for making her followers smile from ear to ear with this 2 truths 1 lie Original SPoken Word Reel.

2 Verena Müller https://www.instagram.com/reel/CvxOq6ItKBm/ for using this great lip sync audio to showcase her snarky side as an actor and expertly playing to different eye lines without overacting AND https://www.instagram.com/p/Cvu7bEDtBVl/ for this wonderful Original Spoken Word Reel with great editing, acting, framing, outfits. The whole thing. Verena is one to watch.
